As of today, our exhibition celebrating the life and legacy of Antonio Russo (1965-2022) is open. This is the first public showing of his 'Stony' works in the UK, with them previously exclusively exhibited in New York, Miami and LA. As his final works they are immensely powerful, created after he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour in 2019.
After receiving such an emotional and positive response on our opening night, we are so excited to welcome collectors and art-enthusiasts to the gallery to experience the striking and raw abstract works of Expressionist artist Antonio Russo and his street-art style alias 'Stony'.
We welcomed Antonio Russo and Stony collectors to an intimate preview evening at the gallery on the 21st March. We were joined by Antonio's partner, Sally Liddle, who shared stories with us about Antonio's life, and behind-the-scenes insight about the creation of the artworks in the exhibition.
Russo's abstract works explore the intersections of music and art. As a colour-blind artist who experiences synesthesia, the paintings are a striking and dynamic expression of exactly how he visualises music.
The 'Stony' works are his diaries on a canvas. He struggled to express himself through having autism and dyslexia, so the 'Stony' works were a vital outlet for him.
