Nick Holdsworth's Process

Nick's creative process is a harmonious blend of playfulness and complexity. Using meticulous crafting to convey a message that resonates deeply with the viewer.

Transforming Images

At the heart of this process lies his remarkable ability to transform mundane images into extraordinary works of art. Beginning with a carefully chosen image, Nick embarks on a digital odyssey. Meticulously composing a detailed and intricate monotone mosaic.

Mosaic Designs

This mosaic is a symphony of repeated graphics, each chosen for its association with the subject of the portrait. From famous brand logos to iconic symbols, these graphics come together in perfect symmetry. Creating a mesmerising visual tapestry that captivates the senses.

Drawing the View in

The meticulous placement of different-sized graphics adds depth and focus to the composition. This draws the viewer into a world of artistic wonder.

Finishing the Mosaic

Once the mosaic nears completion, Nick transitions to the digital realm once more. Producing a colour visual that serves as a blueprint for the final painting. This allows him to fine-tune the colourz and correct any tonal issues. Ensuring that the finished piece is a true masterpiece of artistic expression.

But Nick's creative journey doesn't end there. With the colour visual as his guide, he brings the mosaic to life on heavy art paper. Employing Daler Rowney FW inks and an airbrush to hand-paint each intricate detail.

Eschewing stencils

Eschewing stencils, Nick embraces the challenge of precision. Leaving little margin for error and infusing each stroke with a sense of purpose and passion.
